UAE- Emirates Road gets Dh142m extension

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Drivers heading from Umm Al Quwain to Ras Al Khaimah and vice-versa can now enjoy faster commutes thanks to the much-awaited road extension between the two northern emirates. The road was opened on Tuesday morning.

Emirates Road previously known as the bypass road has been extended from the Aqran area in Umm Al Quwain to the Martyrs area in Ras Al Khaimah according to Dr Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi Minister of Infrastructure Development.

"The 16km-long two-way road extension worth Dh142 million consists of four lanes - two in each direction - with the capacity to add a third lane in both directions in the future."

"The new road is a valuable addition to the federal road network that connects the northern and southern regions of the UAE."

The new road extending along the Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed road from the east in the direction of Ras Al Khaimah will boost traffic flow in the northern emirate Dr Nuaimi stated. The trucks that usually ply on Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed road are expected to use the new road.

"Drivers now need not pass by the Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed road at the Aqran area" he said

The third phase of the arterial road will connect Al Dheit Bateen Al Samar Al Digdaga and Awafi with the Bypass Road in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah Dr Nuaimi unveiled. "The Bypass Road is now linked with the Emirates Road through the second phase of the project extending from Al Aqran to Al Twain."
