Moroccan ISIS Suspect Claims to Work for Spain's Intelligence Services

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Mohammed Harrak a suspected ISIS recruiter arrested on April 19 in the Balearic Islands' capital Majorca has denied having any involvement with the terrorist group claiming he was a spy working for Spain’s National Intelligence Center.

Despite the claims of the suspect reported by the British newspaper Daily Mail the Spanish Interior Ministry presented Harrak as “A clear threat to the national security of Spain.'

The Moroccan cook 26 was arrested on Tuesday and questioned by Judge Carmen Lamela Diaz of the Audiencia Nacional or National Court in Madrid on Thursday.

According to the judge Harrak was involved in a plan to carry out a terrorist attack in Spain that was aborted for reasons beyond his control.

The Daily Mail said Harrak's attempt to join the Army had been rejected because he did not have Spanish nationality.

The same source said the Moroccan cook was contacted by two officers from Spain’s National Intelligence Centre who had given him an offer that he accepted.

Harrak reportedly said he was asked to become a partner -an external person with the aim of infiltrating radical jihadist groups and prevent them from planning attacks by providing information to the intelligence service.

'I am a CNI agent and was instructed by them to insert myself into these groups of radical jihadists' he was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying.

Harrak's defense lawyer Pedro Casado insisted his client was completely innocent claiming he had 'No involvement with ISIS and was simply impersonating a terrorist in order to get information.'
