India, Iran set grounds for major gas pipeline

(MENAFN) In order to initiate discussions regarding a long-proposed undersea pipeline, three major Indian gas buyers will be visiting Iran early next month, according to the latest reports.

This crucial project is set to be an alternative to a similar project via Pakistan, plus it's expected to cost USD4.5bn and would bypass Pakistan and transport up to 31 million cubic meters of gas daily.

Both nations will discuss the price of gas to be used in the pipeline, to be delivered from the Central Asian country to the Islamic Republic, which has to pass through the Sea of Oman and the Arabian Sea.

Each country has its own plans too, as Iran already inked a deal with Oman worth USD60bn to build an undersea pipeline, while Energy-hungry India is committed to a massive USD10bn TAPI pipeline.
