San Francisco leads in fight against climate change

(MENAFN) The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has unanimously passed legislation that would require new construction that is shorter than 10 floors to install solar panels or solar water heaters.

Based on the California law, all new buildings residential or commercial with 10 floors or less must have at least 15 percent of their rooftops designated as solar ready, meaning not in the shade.

The new regulations also make San Francisco the 1st key US city to mandate solar panels on new construction, although other California towns like Lancaster and Sebastopol have instituted similar laws.

"By increasing our use of solar power, San Francisco is once again leading the nation in the fight against climate change and the reduction of our reliance on fossil fuels," stated a top city official.
