Kuwait- Panel discusses draft law on setting up Medical City


(MENAFN- Arab Times) The parliamentary Health Affairs Committee discussed Wednesday the draft law on establishing the Medical City in Sabah Health District in the presence of a team from the Health Ministry.

Committee Rapporteur MP Saadoun Hammad Al-Otaibi disclosed the team informed them that the number of beds in existing hospitals totaled 4,853 beds while the proposed Medical City will have 9,313 beds so the number of beds in public hospitals will increase to 14,166 once the project is completed. Al-Otaibi said the team also presented other projects as follows: one insurance hospital with a capacity of 300 beds and five health centers each for Jahra, Farwaniya and Ahmadi governorates; in addition to the construction of another hospital in an area measuring 82,000 square meters in the suburb of Sabah Al-Ahmad. He added the committee gave the team two weeks to submit its report on the proposed development of Sabah Health District and providing Jaber Hospital with medical staff who are specialized in various fields.

Meanwhile, MP Ahmed Al-Qudaibi has called on the government to allocate land in Kazma for the construction of an international football stadium named after His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. He said the stadium will accommodate 65,000 spectators and it will be constructed through the BOT system.

He added the stadium will include external tennis courts for local, regional and global tournaments; basketball, volleyball and handball courts; international sports medical center with the most advanced equipment; therapeutic center; multilevel parking area and other facilities.

In another development, MP Mansour Al-Zufairi lauded the decision of the oil workers unions to suspend the strike and return to their work stations, stressing that negotiation is the most effective way of solving differences. He said everybody must prioritize national interest over anything else while the suspension of the strike is a sign of respect for HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and belief in the importance of solidarity in handling the current economic situation.
