(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) JOHN, PAUL, GEORGE, RINGO. Four names the music world is very familiar with not just for their smash hits Hey Jude (nine weeks at number one in 1968), Penny Lane, I Want to Hold Your Hand (number one for seven weeks in 1964) but also for years of dominating the music charts.
The Beatles in total have spent an astounding 59 weeks with songs at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
That's a mean feat for anyone in the music industry, yet Rihanna's single Work from her new album Anti just finished its ninth week atop the chart, which means she has overtaken the British band and places her in second place with 60 weeks at number one. And not just that butWork is Rihanna's 14th Hot 100 No. 1!
The songs contributing to Rihanna's new record are: Live Your Life, which spent six weeks at number one in 2008 and was performed by rapper T.I., with Rihanna appearing as a guest vocalist. Monster and Love the Way You Lie were both performed by Eminem, but featured Rihanna singing the choruses. The two songs spent a combined total of 11 weeks at number one.
The only person left to beat: Mariah Carey, who has enjoyed 79 weeks at the top. Carey also has a few collaborations with other artists counted among her total. Her duet with Boyz II Men, One Sweet Day, spent 16 weeks at number one in 1995 and 1996. Her most successful solo single We Belong Together spent 14 weeks as a Billboard Hot 100 number one in 2005.
Guess all the Bajan beauty's "Work" has paid off!
