Qatar- Kuwait to Host Meeting of Syria's Major Donors


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Kuwait April 19 (QNA) - Kuwait will host the seventh meeting of Syria's major donors' on May 2 to follow up humanitarian operations inside and outside Syria said UN Secretary General's envoy for humanitarian affairs Abdullah Al-Maatouq on Tuesday.

Al-Maatouq also an advisor at the Amiri Diwan made the remark quoted Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the sidelines of a ceremony of inaugurating the second phase of Kuwait's "second model village" in Al-Zaatari camp for Syrian refugees in Jordan.

He added that the upcoming meeting will follow up resolutions taken during the fourth Syria Donors Conference which was held in London last February to support Syrian refugees during which a sum of USD 10 billion was pledged.

Kuwait along with the UK Germany Norway and the UN co-hosted the Conference that brought together leaders from around the globe to raise funding critical to helping millions of people who have been impacted by the devastating crisis. Kuwait had hosted the three previous conferences.

On the May 2 meeting Al-Maatouq noted it is regularly held with major donors every three months to follow up the process of expending pledges and allocate sums required to carry out humanitarian and relief projects in addition to coordinating with UN agencies and donor countries.

He expected that countries and bodies which took part in the fourth conference will honor their pledges this year as donors did at the third conference hosted by Kuwait.According to some official figures the Syrian crisis which entered its sixth year led to about 13.5 million either internally displaced persons or refugees.
