Apple denies giving source code to China

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON April 20 (KUNA) -- Apple flatly denied allegations on Tuesday that it gave China the source code for its products.

At a House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing on encryption the tech giant's general counsel Bruce Sewell conceded that China had asked for the source code sometime in the last two years but that the company had not given up any data.

The accusation came from Charles Cohen of the Indiana State Police who said he "saw several news stories" that said Apple provided its code to China. He testified at the hearing as a member of law enforcement.

The issue of encryption has been hotly debated in recent weeks ever since the FBI tried to force Apple to unlock the iPhone of a suspected terrorist.

Apple repeatedly refused until an Israeli company stepped in and offered to help the government gain access to the device. (end) ys.rk
