Oman- Tent Pegging World Cup: Egypt emerges chion

Hosts Egypt clinched the overall title at the second Tent Pegging World Cup that concluded in Cairo on Sunday.

Oman which had finished runner-up in the inaugural edition in Muscat in 2014 had to be content with an overall fourth-place standing after its riders managed just two silver and a bronze medal.

Egypt garnered a total of 767 points in the eight events competed over four days to emerge champion while inaugural edition winner South Africa had to settle for a silver with 758 points. Iraq claimed the bronze with 703.5 points while Oman had 689.

Oman's medals came through Safwan al Ma'amari in the lance and peg while the team comprising Ma'amari Hilal al Balushi Hamad al Riyami and Ali al Balushi won the bronze in the sword and peg event.

Later the International Tent Pegging Federation (ITPF) chairman Mohammed Issa al Fairuz presented the awards to the winners.

The ITPF also presented a special award to the Oman Equestrian Federation (OEF) for supporting and promoting the game. The ITPF headquarters are based out of Muscat and Fairuz is a former OEF chief.
