UAE- Honest Sharjah cabbies return forgotten money


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Three Sharjah taxi drivers returned three suitcases stuffed with thousands of dollars and dirhams to their owners who were passengers from different nationalities.

The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (RTA Sharjah) honoured the three Egyptian and Pakistani cabbies all working at the Sharjah International Airport.

Abdulaziz Al Jarwan Director of RTA Sharjah for Transport Affairs told Khaleej Times that the three cabbies are working with Sharjah Taxi one of the four franchise companies operating in the emirate.

"The first driver Saad Ibrahim Abdulhamid Egyptian safely returned a suitcase with $15000 while the second Akbar Khan a Pakistani found another bag with Dh78000." The third cabbie Wahid Yaqoob also from Pakistan returned a bag with thousands of dollars. "The passengers were happy to collect their money back in full."

Al Jarwan said RTA Sharjah honoured the cabbies not only for their honesty but also for their professional and immediate response. "They instantly alerted the Call Centre."

Sharjah taxi and bus drivers are in direct contact with the public and can better represent the authority with their honesty and professionalism he underlined. "The three cabbies have been declared role models for their counterparts and presented with appreciation certificates and cash prizes" he said.
