Turkey: 18 PKK terrorists killed fleeing to Syria

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Turkish security forces have killed 18 PKK terrorists in Turkey’s southeastern Mardin province reportedly fleeing to Syria unnamed security sources said.

Turkish security sources speaking anonymously due to restrictions on speaking with the media told Anadolu Agency on Monday that two so-called PKK ringleaders were among those killed in a rural area of the Nusaybin district.

Sources said the terrorists were spotted near a cemetery trying to flee from Nusaybin to Kamishli northeastern Syria on the border with Turkey.

Security forces called out to the PKK terrorists to lay down their weapons and surrender but they replied with fire.

Security sources seized 15 Kalashnikov two M-16 infantry rifles three RPG-7 rocket launcher two Glock pistols night vision binoculars and a great deal of ammunition.

Sources said the PKK ringleaders owned M-16 infantry rifles and Glock pistols.

The news comes a day after a top PKK leader Cemil Bayik reportedly ordered PKK terrorists to leave cities to the Civil Defense Units (YPS) and go to the mountains.

In the radiotelephone orders intercepted by Turkish security forces Bayik ordered PKK terrorists “not to leave the injured behind” as they could speak to Turkish authorities. He also ordered them to destroy buildings while withdrawing and to lay booby traps in excavated tunnels.

The PKK – listed as a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and the EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then over 350 members of the security forces have been martyred and thousands of PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
