Australia paves path to facilitate car imports

(MENAFN) In an effort to reduce the price of buying a new car, starting 2018, Australia will allow its citizens to bypass local car dealers and import near-new vehicles from abroad.

As a result to lifting restrictions and fees, nearly 30k Australians are forecasted to ship in new cars directly from either the UK or Japan, thus driving up competition among local dealers.

Furthermore, based on new laws, locals will be able to purchase an imported car once every two years, so long as it has no more than 500km on the odometer and is no more than 1 year old.

Accordingly, Japan and the UK were chosen as initial countries of origin for unrestricted car imports as they both right-hand drive nations with similar, stringent safety standards.
