Me and my car

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) SOME PEOPLE HAVE been known to spend more time and money on their car than the closest people in their lives. The bond that can form between a driver and their vehicle is one which can last a lifetime.

Transcending merely being a mode of transportation, given sufficient driving experiences and a car's character, it can quickly become a friend.

Here we speak to Amaresh Bhaskaran, a 35-year old food photographer/Associate Publisher of Gulf Gourmet from Dubai about his wheels.

What would you be your dream ride?
Already have it! Just kidding. Definitely the new Ford GT.

What's your most memorable road trip?
My most memorable road trip was from Perth to the Pinnacles desert (about 200 kilometres away) in Western Australia. I drove there in my first car, a 1991 Ford Fairmont, which I had just bought second (maybe third) hand for Dhs7000 in 2004. That feeling of freedom was priceless.

Favourite car movie?
Not strictly a car movie- Ronin, for the jaw dropping car chases.

Do you think the Dubai lifestyle means there's a lot of pressure to get a nice car? Is it easier to get your hands on your dream car here than anywhere else?
Not really. Not for me anyway. The first car I had in Dubai was a 2007 Honda Civic and I had just as much fun in it as I have in my present car. It is definitely much easier to get your hands on your dream car in Dubai. Keeping it though is another matter!

What's your favourite soundtrack while driving?
Highway Star by Deep Purple.

If you could have one fantasy passenger on a road trip who would it be?
Tough question, but it would have to be Penelope Pitstop because she is the Glamour Gal of the Gas Pedal!

What made you decide on your car? Can you put into words how it makes you feel?
Just the name, Corvette! Oh, and the 6.2-litre V8 sitting inside. It puts a smile on my face. Every day.

Did you get any help in sprucing it up?
I haven't really done much to the car ever since I bought it a few years ago. One reason is probably because it's my daily driver and another is because the car is pretty good as is. I guess the only thing I need to get done now is a paint job with all those mysterious dings and scratches you inevitably get in Dubai.

Who do you think would win in a drag race between you with your car, Dick Dastardly and his whacky racer and Batman in his Batmobile?
Dick Dastardly might take the lead at first but would never stand a chance because he tends to be a victim of his own successes. My guess is Batman and his Batmobile would win it and I'd make it to a comfortable second. It'll all be worth it if I get to hear Muttley laugh though!

Someone offers you 1 million dirhams for your car - do you take it or leave it?
Are you serious? Take it definitely. And get that Ford GT I'm lusting for!
