Qatar Red Crescent Society marks successes in Al Khor

Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society’s (QRCS) branch in Al Khor is working hard to serve the local community in the Al Shamal northern part of the country with health education courses first-aid courses and participation in public events.

Among the events attended by QRCS was an environmental exhibition held by Al Thakhira Model School to celebrate Qatar National Environment Day. QRCS’s corner introduced the young students to QRCS’s humanitarian and social activities locally and internationally distributed health education printouts and conducted blood sugar and pressure tests for the attendance which was over 170 students parents teachers and administrative staff.

Also the branch participated in the sixth ‘Safe Spring’ camp organized by the Community Police Department in Al Ghariya.

The three-day event attracted many visitors of various ages especially the families camping in the area.

In pursuit of QRCS’s ‘I Am a Paramedic’ training program the branch offered two-day courses for 38 Grade-6 students teachers administrative staff supervisors and bus drivers of Al Thakhira Model School for Boys as well as 20 teachers of Al Khor Model Kindergarten for Boys and students of Simaisma Preparatory School for Boys.

The trainees received theoretical and practical training in first aid skills including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and how to deal with cases of suffocation bleeding fracture burn nosebleed and eye injuries in addition to the best techniques of recovering and moving injured people.

Volunteer doctors of QRCS delivered a lecture on oral health for 10 mothers of Al Khor Model Kindergarten for Boys and another lecture on asthma for 15 asthmatic students and 50 teachers of Al Khor and Umm Salal Ali Primary School for Girls.

During a four-day recreational trip for some inhabitants of Qatar Foundation for Elderly People Care (Ihsan) and other elderly to Rambak a town near to Al Khor a QRCS doctor delivered an informative lecture about the necessary precautions that elderly people need to observe before and during travel and trips. A female doctor talked particularly with the ladies.

Under the ‘Together for Benevolence’ campaign implemented by QRCS volunteers with QR930000 funding from Chevron Philips Chemical – Qatar in favour of 25000 expatriate workers throughout the country the branch distributed hygiene kits over five days to 750 workers of Al Khor Al Shamal and Al Daayen municipalities.

QRCS Branch in Al Khor works to provide social and humanitarian services for the people of Al Shamal region with a view to enhancing QRCS’s influence in that part of Qatar as an auxiliary to the State of Qatar in its humanitarian and social policies locally and abroad contributing to the development of local communities and designing customized services and social programs for specific regions.The Peninsula
