DOHA: Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdulla bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani yesterday inaugurated the first phase of Imdad project which aims to develop a national information system to achieve sustainability of the economic and urbanisation levels in Qatar.

The project provides a mechanism based on demand that enables the State to maintain a surplus of strategic goods at all times.

In his speech the Premier said the government fully realises that the project will also serve future generations.

He hoped that all ministries and companies involved in the project will succeed in their mission.

The high-level visionary initiative is expected to monitor estimated demand and supply of all strategic items and goods (especially those imported from overseas) in the country including primary raw materials such as gabbro limestone and sand among others through a specially designed integrated system involving key organisations and public entities.

The Premier stressed that the country must develop a mechanism that can track demand and provide necessary reserves of strategic goods to maintain stability of the Qatari society on the economic and social levels.

The launch took place at Sheraton Hotel in Doha and was attended by Minister of Energy and Industry

H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada; Qatari Businessmen’s Association Chairman Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani; Qatar Chamber Vice-Chairman Muhammed bin Ahmed bin Towar Al Kuwari; Public Works Authority (Ashghal) President Nasser bin Ali Al Mawlawi and other officials.

The Premier said Qatar’s development in all sectors has come a long way in recent years as the country looks to achieve its National Vision 2030 put in place by Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

He said Qatar’s strong development has led to an increase in the population which in turn has led to a surge in demand for strategic goods — whether produced locally or imported from abroad. The Premier also stressed that the leadership and the government are always looking to maintain the country’s economic security.
