Morocco- Agadir to Host the Fourth Annual International Green Marathon on 24 April


(MENAFN- Morocco World News) The city of Agadir will host its fourth annual International Green Marathon on Sunday 24 April under the motto 'let's run for the environment.'

The organizing committee held a press conference on 6 April in order to promote the event and provide information about this year's marathon activities. Organizers anticipate that over 10000 runners will participate.

Agadir's International Green Marathon is considered the first eco-friendly marathon in Africa.

Marathon organizers aim to plant 3000 trees on Saturday 23 April ahead of the event under the direct supervision of the governor of the Souss-Massa region and the Agadir Municipal Council in cooperation with the regional High Commission of Planning for Water and Forests.

According to Abdelwahed Soulami Rahal the chairman of the organizing committee the event aims to spread awareness among the citizens of Agadir and the participants of the marathon who come from around the world about the importance of caring for the environment.

Mohammed Bakiri the vice president of the Agadir Municipal Council announced that the Council would allocate MAD 300000 in financial aid to the Regional Council of Tourism in Agadir and Souss-Massa to support artistic recreational and sports activities in the city.

Local authorities will ensure that Agadir's streets remain free of cars during the event.

In 2015 the third annual International Green Marathon in Agadir was a success with over 30500 participants.
