QBA shuttlers dominate first Doha Secondary School Open


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Participants pose with their trophies after the presentation ceremony of the first Doha Secondary School Badminton Open held in Doha recently.

Doha: Qatar Badminton Academy students excelled in the first Doha Secondary School Badminton Open clinching various titles in the event which concluded recently.

Karthik Pramodkumar of Qatar Badminton Academy (QBA) won the U-16 boys singles title after defeating Anirudh Narayan also from QBA in straight games.

Karthik took the first game later Anirudh injured his leg and conceded the match.

Earlier Karthik Pramod beat Mohd Gayuh in the semi-final (21-13 21-11) while Rohit Manoj of QBA lost to Anirudh in the semi-final.

In the U-16 boys doubles Chirag and Darsan of QBA lost to Ahmad Qassim & Abdul Hakim Satham of Qatar Badminton Association with a 21-7 21-12 score-line. In the U-16 girls singles Aditi Anil of QBA defeated Sunidhi Shenoy in a closely fought match.

Later in the U-16 girls doubles Aditi Anil paring with SunidhiShenoy beat AmnahAbouelseoud& Neha Shetty of Qatar Badminton Association in Straight Games (21-10 21-12)

In the match of the day Aditi & Sunidhi defeated 3rd Seeded Abel Villaren & Leslie Anne in the women’s double final.

They took the first game (21-16) but Abel and partner with their experience came back in the Second set (15-21).

In the third and the deciding game Aditi and Sunidhi with a scintillating performance took the game and match from the well experienced duo 21-15.

Saadwi Shiral and Bhavya of Qatar Badminton Academy reached the semi-final stages in the U-13 girls Singles category.

Saadwi showed a brilliant display before losing to Sreeyuktha of UAE in a closely contested 3 games (19-21 21-13 21-19).

Advaith Raghav of QBA reached the semi-finals in the Under 13 Boys singles category but could not play because of his injury.

Earlier Shaffin Reyods of QBA a debutant displayed a wonderful performance and impressed the crowd before losing to Second Seeded Ahmed Qassim of Badminton Association in a thrilling 3 setter.

Qatar Badminton Academy mentors Pramod Kumar & KO George won the Veteran Doubles title by defeating Sunil Thomas and Zachariya MP in a straight game.(21-14 23-21)

Prizes were distributed by Dr. Saleh Abdullah the Owner and head of the Doha independent Secondary School for Boys in the presence of Dr. Salah Salem Member of Ministry of Education in Qatar and other dignitaries.The Peninsula
