Muaither lift Qatargas League trophy

Doha: The Qatar Football Association (QFA) and Qatargas crowned Muaither as Champions of the Qatargas League for sports season 2015/16.

Muaither collected a total of 44 points and allowing the club to be promoted to the Qatar Stars League (QSL) next season.

Al Shahaniya claimed the second place after collecting a total point of 38. Al Markhiya secured third place after winning against Al Khorand increasing their total points to 36 points.

Al Shahaniya have also been promoted to the QSL after accumulating enough points in the Qatargas League.

A crowning ceremony was held in Al Ahli Stadium following Muaither and Al Sailiya’s match in which Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdullah Al Thani Chief Operating Officer - Engineering & Ventures at Qatargas and Ahmed Al Buainain Member of the Qatar Football Association (QFA) Executive Committee have crowned Muaither Al Shahaniya and Al Markhiya as first second and third respectively.

The Qatargas League this season has witnessed strong battles amongst the clubs as they aimed to win the coveted title and be promoted to become first division clubs.

In its third edition the Qatargas League this year has witnessed the participation of 18 clubs 14 of which are reserve teams and 4 are second division teams. The league kicked off on September 20 2015.

Commenting on the occasion Ahmed Al Buainain Member of the Qatar Football Association (QFA) Executive Committee said: “We congratulate Muaither on winning the title of Qatargas League this year along with Al Shahaniya and Al Markhiya for securing second place and third place respectively.

This season has been significant for Muaither and Al Shahania as they will be promoted to the Qatar Stars League (QSL) next season.

The Qatargas League illustrates QFA’s objective to constantly have a direct impact on the development of first and second division clubs.”

He added: “We are delighted to organise this league alongside Qatargas and look forward to working with them on future joint projects that positively impact the development of football.”

Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdullah Al Thani Chief Operating Officer Engineering & Venture said: We are pleased that the Qatargas League has now grown remarkably and contributed towards promoting and enhancing the game over the past two seasons meeting our objectives in taking Qatar’s football to new heights especially as the country is getting ready to host the World Cup in 2022.”

Qatargas and QFA’s 3 year partnership started in 2013 where a deal was signed for Qatargas to become the name partner of the league. This agreement changed the name of the previously known “Q League” to “Qatargas League”. The Qatargas League witnesses the participation of 18 reserve and second division teams.The Peninsula
