Qatar's UNESCO Candidate Discusses his Vision with South African Officials


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Pretoria April 11 (QNA) - The State of Qatar's candidate to the Post of the Director-General of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and Advisor at the Emiri Diwan Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari met Monday with South Africa's Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga.
Al Kuwari presented his strategy and vision as Qatar's nominee to the post stressing that enhancing the role of education will be a big part of his tenure.
For her part Motshekga expressed her admiration of the State of Qatar and its role in improving education services worldwide. She highlighted the role of Education Above All initiative and its Educate a Child program as something South Africa benefited from. She then wished Qatar's nominee success in his bid.
The meeting was on Al Kuwari's schedule for the visit to South Africa. HE the advisor at the Emiri Diwan also visited the Nelson Mandela Foundation which aims to combat racism and promote peace. His Excellency met with researchers at the foundation to discuss his vision for UNESCO. The foundation endorsed HE Al Kuwari for the role and wished him well.
On Tuesday Qatar's candidate will attend a ceremony along with a number of diplomats and South African officials. HE Al Kuwari will speak in the ceremony about his vision for UNESCO focusing particularly on UNESCO's role in Africa.
HE Al Kuwari is held in high regard in Africa particularly due to his work as Deputy Chairman of the Anti-Racism Committee in his capacity as a UN delegate. (QNA)
