China logs 2pct rise in consumer prices over March


(MENAFN) China's consumer prices increased 2.3pct in March from one year earlier, the same as in February, according to the latest data released by the National Bureau of Statistics.

The consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, declined 0.4pct in March from Feb, thus Food prices soared 7.6 percent year on year while non-food inflation edged up 1pct in March.

Moreover, pork prices climbed severely by 28.4pct y-o-y, contributing 0.64 percentage points of CPI growth, while vegetable prices jumped by 35.8pct, representing 0.92 percentage points of CPI growth.

Meanwhile, the producer price index (PPI), which measures wholesale inflation, dipped 4.3pct y-o-y in March, narrowing from 4.9pct deterioration in February and 5.3 percent decline in January.
