Arab coalition forces committed to ceasefire in Yemen


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RIYADH April 10 (KUNA) -- The command of the Saudi-led Arab coalition in support of Yemen's legitimate authority reaffirmed determination to comply with the ceasefire planned to take force at 23:59 Sunday April 10.

The coalition forces reserve their right to respond to any breach by the Houthi rebels of the ceasefire which came in response to a call by Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi according to statement by the general command carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The announcement said the Yemeni government has notified the UN envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Alshiekh Ahmad of its acceptance of the ceasefire in a bid to pave the way for consultations to be held in Kuwait on April 18 2016.

That the ceasefire will hold until 12:00 noon of the next day of the end of consultations in Kuwait unless the agreement was extended.

Once extended the Yemeni government is obliged to notify the coalition command of the decision the announcement said.

In conformity with the efforts being exerted by the government of Saudi Arabia to find a comprehensive solution to the conflict and stop the bloodshed in Yemen the coalition command would remain committed to ceasefire but reserve for itself the right to respond to any violations the statement added.
