U.S. equites slide lower across the board

U.S. equities fell overnight with financials the hardest hit. The U.S. dollar also fell.

By the close the Dow Jones had lost 1% to 17542. The S&P 500 fell 1.2% to 2042 with the hardest hit the tech-laden NASDAQ which plunged 1.5% to 4848.

Crude oil was once again under pressure.

West Texas Intermediate settles fell 1.3% to US$37.26 a barrel while Brent futures lost 1% to US$39.47 a barrel.

Higher Iraqi oil exports also added to the current global oversupply.

There was one shining light.

Gold leapt 1.5% to US$1241 an ounce in electronic trading.
