Italy expects steady growth despite revised forecasts

(MENAFN) The Italian government revised down its growth projection for this year but vowed the depressed numbers would not have an effect on the nation's budget.

The updated forecast for the country's gross domestic product growth is 1.2pct, down from a previous forecast of 1.6 percent, and it's now expected to hit 1.4pct in 2017.

Growth has been stirred by the effect of government measures and is accompanied by a nonstop advance in public finances both in terms of the deficit/GDP ratio and of debt.

"Growth is accelerating compared to the previous year, which was a positive year of growth after three years of recession," stated the country's Minister of Finance following a cabinet meeting.
