Kuwait- AIPU executive cmte meets in Cairo


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO April 9 (KUNA) -- Members of the executive committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) appreciated the role of Kuwait the outgoing presidency of the committee and the AIPU in leading the Union in the last years.

Speakers at the 19th session of the committee spoke highly of the efforts made by the Secretariat of the Kuwaiti National Assembly for arranging the previous activities of the AIPU Kuwaiti MP and member of the executive committee Faisal Al-Shaya told KUNA on Saturday evening on the sidelines of the meeting.

"They applauded the role of Kuwaiti National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim in supporting the Palestine question and shedding light at various international occasions on the repeated crimes of the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian people" he said.

Al-Ghanim's efforts contributed to the lobbying for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people Al-Shaya said voicing hope that more countries will recognize the State of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital city.

He wished Lebanon the next president of the AIPU success in activating the role of the Union and building on the achievements made by Kuwait's National Assembly in this regard.

Regarding the 23rd conference of the AIPU due to start on Sunday Al-Shaya said the executive committee approved the agenda of the conference and reviewed the recommendations of the last conference held in Jordan.

"The committee rewrote an article of the AIPU statutes relating to the quorum for the AIPU meetings. The amended article stipulates that any member country whose parliament is dissolved will be excluded temporarily from the quorum" he added.

Meanwhile MP Awda Al-Rowaey said the conferees were unanimous that Kuwait was able to lead the AIPU efficiently despite the numerous challenges that faced the Arab parliamentary action in the recent years.

He welcomed the resumption by the Egyptian parliament of its AIPU membership and wished Lebanon success in leading the Arab parliamentary action in the coming stage. (end) msh.gb
