Qatar- QU forum backs up football practices

Doha: The Sport Science Programme at Qatar University College of Arts and Sciences held the closing ceremony of the 2016 edition of International Science And Football Association (ISAFA) workshops and conference held at QU.

The full-week event included practical workshops theoretical lectures applied seminars clinics and two full days of research outputs.

It aimed to back up football practices by cutting-edge applied sciences. Field experts representing schools from Qatar Brazil France Poland Portugal Tunisia and Uruguay shared knowledge with world-renowned scientists from Qatar Brazil France Greece Switzerland Spain Turkey the UK the US and other countries.

From the football stadium to the research complex lecture theatre passing by the virtual reality lab in QU up to Aspire Academy the delegates and attendees learnt something new and had joy discovering the venues and networking.

The 2016 edition of ISAFA gathered for the first time all major sport and science institutions in Qatar as one family to deliver its content — QU Aspire Academy Aspetar Anti- Doping Lab Qatar and Qatar Olympic Academy (QOC). It was for the first time that ISAFA was organised in an Arabic country.

Dr Monèm Jemni Chair ISAFA and Professorial Chair in Sport Science Programme QOC said: “The week was a blessing showcasing the backstage of football by bringing together experts practitioners scientists managers stakeholders representatives and students to inspire them to be the next generation of coaches and/or experts.

“There is no progress without science; football is only one of these sports where scientists’ input has been lacking for many years. It is about time coaches and scientists sat around the same table and learnt from each other’s experiences and solved some of the key issues related to performance.

“I would like to express my gratitude to our partners and sponsors and those who made the event happen including our volunteer students” he added.
