Oman- 200 participate in Jebel Shams trekking challenge

To increase tourists to Jebel Shams the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) recently organised a trekking event for 200 people.

Held in collaboration with Hussak Adventure Team from Al Hajar Adventures and Tourism the Jabal Shams Trekking Challenge saw participants from different age groups and nationalities in the 10km trek.

During the climb the trekkers visited the Goul historical village and the Shurfat al Nakhr. The trip was undertaken through a route established by MoT which maintains over 12 routes in the Hajar mountain range as part of its effort to promote adventure tourism in the country. The ministry also worked closely with local institutions in the area for logistics support.

The winner of the challenge received a cash prize of US$3000. Jebel Shams' cool weather even during summers breathtaking peaks spectacular view of the deep wadi and the curvaceous road uphill offer adventure souls the perfect getaway into the hills and enjoy the splendid beauty on foot. Home to several indigenous plants and trees the area also attracts nature lovers. Located in the wilayat of Al Hamra in Dakhliyah Jebel Shams is the highest peak in Oman at about 3000ft above sea level.
