Oman- ROPhighlights irresponsible road behaviour

The ROP has talked about irresponsible driving behaviour. The mistakes include heavy trucks not keeping within their designated lanes.

'As some drivers do not bother to stick to their traffic track it creates chaos and confusion on the roads' the ROP said in a statement. The report released during the recent GCC Traffic Week also brought forth the risk posed by youngsters on busy roads riding bicycles and scooters.

'This kind of behaviour is a cause of accidents.' Another common oversight is concerning seatbelts. 'The seatbelt is a must for the driver and passenger in the front. Many people are found not adhering to this vital safety rule' the ROP stated. Also many drivers make mistakes at traffic signals.

'There is a tendency to start moving when the light has just turned yellow and not wait for it to go green. 'This can lead to accidents as there are chances of vehicular movement in the opposite lanes.' In 2015 there were 6279 car accidents including 2959 collisions 1443 incidents of vehicles crashing into stationary objects 1075 cases of vehicles flipping over 613 cases of people being run over and 189 cases of animal being run over the ROP stated.
