UAE- Seven arrested for forging government cheques


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Ajman Police has arrested seven Arabs for forging cheques belonging to the government departments and private companies and getting them cleared through accounts of visitors.

The gang members managed to clear 89 forged cheques with a total value of Dh4359300.

According to Brig. Abdullah Al Hamrani the Chief of Deputy Ajman Police said that the gang initially received genuine cheques from companies and government departments for other dealings and then sent them outside the country for forgery. Those cheques were then were sent to them by courier to be used in the country.

The gang also brought fake visitors and opened bank accounts for them in which they deposited the forged cheques with forged signatures had the accounts holders sign blank cheques and leave the country after they got paid for their mission.

Revealing the details Col. Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi Director General of CID department at Ajman Police said that on February 2 2016 they received a complaint from a bank in the country stating that six forged cheques with the value of Dh772000 had been deposited in accounts to two clients.

The police also received complaints from government departments and private companies about the withdrawal of cash from their accounts in the banks.

The police formed a team of CID officers who launched an intensified investigation and arrested the holder of one of the accounts whose cheques had gotten cleared before he was supposed to leave the country. He confessed that he was brought from his country on purpose to open an account sign blank cheques and then leave the country. The police also managed to arrest other six who ran such criminal operations to get money out of government and private companies.

Police officers are on alert with vigilant eye to detect this kind of crimes.
