Qatar- QC delivers homes to Syrians

DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC) has completed work on the first phase of a housing project in Wadi Al Daif in Syria.

It has delivered 200 housing units to beneficiaries and will soon start procedures for delivering the second batch of the project comprising another 200 units four months later. Each housing unit consists of two rooms a kitchen and a bathroom.

The project will serve 2400 people. It is part of QC’s efforts to meet the needs of the Syrian people especially those who have returned to their cities and villages.

QC completed work on 50 percent of the project (400 housing units). Each unit is implemented at a cost of QR12600. The total cost of the project is around QR5m.

Because of the high need for shelter QC prioritises such projects to save the dignity of the displaced people.

Mohammed Jassim Al Suleiti Relief Coordinator QC said “QC has always proven itself committed to helping the brothers and sisters in Syria. It is to alleviate their suffering and provide all necessary means for a better life. Having a home is essential and this is what we try to do. Implementation of the project has come a long way.

“QC will ensure the displaced people return to their cities and villages once they are safe and secured” he added.

QC recently signed five agreements with Islamic Dawa Organisation and Union of Relief and Development Associations in Lebanon to implement relief projects for Syrian refugees in Lebanon at a cost of around QR5m.

So far around 2500 units have been entirely built or are almost done. Some of the big projects implemented in the field are ‘Al Rayyan City’ and ‘Doha Al Kheir’ City both near the Turkey-Syria borders.

Each city has 1000 housing units which are environmentally friendly and facilities including mosques classrooms sanitation medical points and playgrounds.

The total amount QC has allocated for the displaced Syrians and refugees is around QR376m.

More than 6831000 people are benefiting from the projects in Syria and the neighbouring countries. The projects covered the fields of food shelter health and education in Syria.The Peninsula
