Qatar- Al Gharafa shock chions Al Rayyan as Wakrah survive

AL SADD: Al Gharafa’s Hungarian forward Krisztian Nemeth and midfielder Abdulaziz Hatem had a perfect day as they shocked Qatar Stars League champions Al Rayyan at Al Sadd Stadium yesterday.

Surprising the reigning QSL champions Nemeth opened up the scoring in the 47th minute of the game when he picked up the ball just few metres away from the net as he made no mistake in netting the ball. Adding more woes to Al Rayyan a second goal was added to the Grarafa’s account when Hatem shot a beauty into the net from 15 meters away.

Al Rayyan’s star midfielder Rodrigo Tabata tried lifted hopes for the champions in the 65th minute when he headed the ball into the net but no other player succeeded in finding an equaliser.

Meanwhile Al Wakrah took a major step to survival last evening defeating former QSL champions Lekhwiya 2-0. Goals at the end of each half from Mouhcine Moutouali and Mahir Yousef Bakur gave the Blue Waves the win effectively guaranteeing their status in the QSL for another season.

The Moroccan midfielder Moutaouali gave the much needed lead to the home team when he netted one in the 38th minute adding energy to the game which lacked momentum at the early stage.

The former champions failed to find an equaliser and Al Wakrah kept on applying pressure. Then the hosts who faced the strong Lekhwiya without the services of their star striker Sasha were provided with another goal when Bakur added one more to ease their tension with three minutes remaining in the second half.

Last time out before yesterday’s game Lekhwiya emphatically beat Al Wakrah 6-2 with South Korean attacker Nam-Tae Hee grabbing a hat-trick for the Red Knights.

Meanwhile second placed El Jaish took on relegation threatened Qatar Sports Club in a top versus bottom clash at the Lekhwiya stadium last afternoon.

The match ended all square courtesy of goals from Mohammed Al Rabiei for Qatar SC and Abderazzak Hamdallah for Jaish.

Rabiei scored the first goal of the game picking up well placed corner kick in the 45th minute for relegation threatened Qatar SC. El Jaish who occupy the second slot in the QSL points table found the equaliser in the 68th minute through their Moroccan striker Abderrazzaq Hamed Allah who made no mistake in shooting it right past Qatar SC goalkeeper Mohmad Mubark Dawood.
