Obama Hollande discuss Daesh

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) >Nuclear security concerns are compounded by terrorism President Barack Obama said Thursday.

The American leader’s comments came after a meeting with his French counterpart President Francois Hollande on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit in the U.S. capital.

“This is obviously an occasion in which we are deeply concerned about nuclear security making sure that nuclear materials don't fall into the hands of terrorists” Obama said.

”We have not only great urgency around the nuclear issue but eliminating generally the scourge of terrorism.” Noting terrorist attacks in Paris in November and Brussels earlier this month Obama said the U.S. and France have made “significant strides around information-sharing” to identify and uproot foreign fighters.

U.S. officials have urged European powers to do more against the Daesh terrorist group. Obama noted Hollande’s efforts in pushing European countries to be more effective in sharing intelligence and cut off financial resources to terrorist groups.

The two leaders discussed a range of issues including the turmoil in Libya according to the White House.

Hollande speaking alongside Obama said that Europe is the target of Daesh terrorists. The French leader said the root of terrorism is in Iraq and Syria.
