Qatari FM Canadian counterpart discuss regional and international issues

OTTAWA1st April 2016 (WAM) -- Qatar's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulrahman Al -Thani held here Thursday a session of talks with Canadian Foreign Minister Stephane Dion.

According to Qatar News Agency QNA the two sides discussed ways of strengthening bilateral relations between Qatar and Canada and exchanged views on international and regional issues particularly the fight against terrorism and the situation in Syria Iraq and Yemen.

The Canadian Foreign Minister stressed the importance of the role played by the State of Qatar in the fight against terrorism through its membership in the international coalition to fight the Daesh group as well as its role in finding a political solution to the Syrian crisis.

Qatar's Minister of Foreign Affairs also met here Thursday with David McGovern - Deputy National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister and Peter MacDougall. Assistant Secretary to the Cabinet Foreign and Defence Policy at Privy Council Office.

During the meeting they discussed bilateral relations between Qatar and Canada and exchanged views on international and regional affairs besides security issues of common interest.

Discussions also dealt with ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in all fields including the military and security side.
