Kerry: Nuclear summit is less talk more action


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON April 1 (KUNA) -- Unlike some international sessions the Nuclear Security Summit is oriented "less towards talk and more towards actions" Secretary of State John Kerry said at the ministerial dinner for heads of delegation attending the 2016 meetings.

"Every step forward we take is a step away from danger and in many cases it is a step away from danger that we don't have the ability necessarily to control" he said.

Kerry continued "Given the situation that we know about the world today...in the arena we have to get it right everyday 24 hours a day...if you are a terrorist you only have to get it right for a minute." "I think if we do the work (here) properly the world could be greatful to everyone here who is part of this endeavor" said the Secretary.

He noted that he only has 9 more months left as Secretary of State until when a new US President will be inaugurated to which he said "the most impressive" factor to him was "the multilateral energy the willingness of everybody to come together...in order to achieve our goals." This is the fourth and last Nuclear Security Summit of its kind as the initiative has been a personal one for President Barack Obama and his focus on reducing the threat of nuclear terrorism.

More than 50 foreign delegations are attending the summit including Saudi Arabia the UAE Algeria Egypt Jordan and Morocco.

Notable absences include Russia who has declined the invitation to attend and Iran who was not invited. (end) ak.tg
