The Oman Golf Committee (OGC) has been in constant pursuit to boost the sport among junior golfers and in another initiative has announced the hosting of the inaugural edition of the OGC Junior Open at Almouj Golf on April 15.

The championship will be supported by OmanLNG and Trowers & Hamlins and is an open event for children in the age group of six to 16 years. The field will be restricted to 54 golfers.

Players from all the OGC-affiliated units - Ghala Golf Club Muscat Hills Golf & Country Club Almouj Golf and Ras al Hamra Golf Club - are expected to participate in the competition.

The tournament will be played at the par-3 course and is open for kids without any handicap. There will be two participating groups one for U9 and another in the nine to 16 years category.

Mundhir al Barwani the OGC chairman said 'We are happy to announce that for the first time we are going to organise a golf tournament only for juniors.'

Ahmed al Jhdhamy the OGC vice-chairman said 'We would like to have parents as volunteers for the event because kids need their parents beside them all the time. It would be a great experience for the parents as well.'

The registration of entries will close on April 12.
