Qatar- Exciting games on cards says Al Ansari

DOHA: Mansoor Al Ansari Secretary General of Qatar Football Association (QFA) yesterday said he is expecting ‘exciting battles for Emir Cup glory’ when Qatar’s biggest football tournament commences next month.

The five-stage event will commence on April 18 when Qatargas League title champions Muaither take on Al Shahaniya at Al Arabi Stadium. The final will be played on May 20 at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.

“There is no doubt this is the biggest and most popular tournament in Qatar. All teams always seem to do well in this event. I am sure we will get to see exciting battles among the participating teams” Al Ansari said at the draw ceremony yesterday.

“The players know all eyes are on them. They want to do well for their teams in front of large audiences. It all makes for exciting games” he added.

“This event signals the end of a football season in Qatar. The teams know the final of the tournament is witnessed by H H the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Emir Cup is a football celebration with fans wanting to be part of the games” he said.

“That’s why we have arranged for family entertainment at all the three venues of the tournament. There will be special zones where families can watch the games and have fun at the same time” he said.

“Our preparations are moving towards covering every base for what should be another successful edition of the Emir Cup” Al Ansari said.

“During this event the rivalries among teams takes a new dimension. There are no easy games. There are no easy wins. The battle for victory is intense” he said. “Players work extremely hard to make a lasting impression” he said.

“We wish all the teams good luck” he said with a smile.

Al Sadd have won the Emir Cup titles 15 times followed by Al Arabi with 8 crowns. Al Gharafa have won the title 7 times while Al Ahli have bagged the crown 4 times.
