Tokyo Jumada II 21 1437 March 30 2016 SPA -- Japan's industrial production dropped 6.2 per cent in February marking the third decline in four months amid sluggish domestic consumption and slow growth in emerging economies the government said Wednesday according to dpa.
The reading followed a 3.7-per-cent rise in January and comes as the government in Tokyo seeks to avoid a further contraction in the national economy.
The index of production at factories and mines stood at 93.6 against a 2010 baseline of 100 the Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry said saying production was "fluctuating indecisively."
Transport equipment electronic parts and devices and general-purpose production and business-oriented machinery industries contributed to the bulk of the decline the ministry said.
Manufacturers expect industrial production to rise 3.9 per cent in March and jump 5.3 per cent in April a survey conducted by the ministry showed.
The index of industrial shipments fell 4.3 per cent in February from the previous month to 93.5 and that of industrial inventories edged down 0.1 per cent to 112.0.
The Japanese economy overall has seen two contractions in the last three quarters.
