UAE- Ajman fire: Nearby hotels have hiked rates complain residents

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Tenants who were affected by the fire and were provided cash aid said hotels near the Ajman One residential complex hiked rates from Dh600 per night to Dh800.

Many of them could not find rooms as most of them were taken by residents.

Fakiha Mustafa a resident of the tower said she spent the night in her car as she did not have enough cash. And hotels had hiked the room rates. "I'm trying to get a cheaper room in Sharjah today."

Another tenant of Tower 8 said she couldn't find any vacant hotel rooms in Ajman and hence went to Sharjah. But hotels in Sharjah had also hiked the prices after they heard about the incident.

It was a blessing that the alarm system was functioning said some of the tenants. Since the alarm went off many of them were able to evacuate the building as quickly as possible they said.

However tenants of Tower 6 and 8 said the fire extinguishers were empty and hose reels were not functioning.

At 3pm on Tuesday the police allowed tenants of neighbouring buildings which were only partially affected to enter their apartment after services such as power gas and water were restored.

The tenants Khaleej Times spoke to said they did not have home content insurance.
