US reaffirms commitment to Turkey to fight terrorism

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) The U.S. on Monday reaffirmed its commitment to Turkey to jointly confront terrorism and condemned recent attacks by Daesh.

National Security Advisor Susan Rice met with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu at the White House to discuss bilateral cooperation on security and counter-terrorism according to a written statement.

"They discussed the best means to work together to degrade and destroy ISIL" it said.

While condemning the PKK attacks against its NATO ally in recent weeks Rice underscored the need for assaults to end and "urged the Turkish government to uphold the universal democratic values enshrined in Turkey’s constitution."

The PKK listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and the EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state last July.

Since then more than 350 members of the Turkish security forces have been martyred and thousands of PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
