Oman- Lebanon to open its office in OCCI to promote investments

The announcement of a Lebanese office at the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) is likely to boost bilateral investment.

The opening of the office was announced as part of a high-level business delegation visit to Oman this month led by the Chamber of Commerce Industry and Agriculture of Beirut and Mount Lebanon.

The delegation met H H Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq al Said Minister of Heritage and Culture as well as ministers of Commerce and Industry Manpower Tourism and Environment and Climate Affairs. They also participated in an Omani-Lebanese economic forum at the Al Bustan Palace a Ritz-Carlton Hotel recently.

At the forum Said bin Saleh al Kiyumi OCCI chairman highlighted investment opportunities at Duqm Sohar and Salalah ports. The delegation also visited the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) and Ithraa. H E Houssam Diab Lebanon's Ambassador to Oman also announced during the visit that a Lebanese product exhibition is scheduled to be held in October.

Omani businessmen have been invited to Beirut's International Franchise Forum and Exhibition in May. A series of initiatives between the two countries began in November 2015 during the Business Opportunities Forum in Oman. There Lebanese and Omani officials agreed on establishing an Omani-Lebanese business council. They also agreed upon a visit to Lebanon last February which was led by Kiyumi.

During the visit officials agreed on establishing a commercial centre in Oman which would give preference to Lebanese brands. Mohammed Shuqair chairman of the Lebanese chamber of commerce led this month's reciprocal visit. The chamber has called on Omani companies to look for a stake in construction and energy projects in Lebanon.
