UAE- Charity spent Dh1.15b over ten years


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Beit Al Khair Society has spent Dh1.15 billion on several philanthropic projects over the last 10 years in the country.

Official statistics show that the leading charity association spent Dh222 million on philanthropic projects and programmes in 2015 alone. "This represented a 36 per cent rise as compared to 2014" said Juma Al Majid chairman of the Society."The big local contribution reflects the donors' trust in the Society which redirects all donations to the most needy people across the UAE."

"As such Beit Al Khair spent over Dh1.15 billion on thousands of low-income families and needy people in the last ten years since its inception in 1989" he added.

Al Majid said the main projects spent over last year included the Low-income Families programme through which Dh52.7million were contributed in fixed cash allowances.

"Up to Dh13.8 million were spent on in-kind and foodstuff project whereas Dh1.4million were donated to a list of eligible special needy people and Dh254063 were paid against defaulters' debts."

Beit Al Khair has also paid much attention to local orphans and their families with total payments that amounted to Dh14.9 million in 2015 including Dh12.2 million on sponsorship and Dh2.68 million on Orphans Fund he said.

"Poor students' programme is also one among our main projects with total expenses that hit Dh4.53million spanning Dh2.13million on stationary project and Dh3.4million on university students."

Al Majid pointed out that the 'Unending Alms' is Beit Al Khair's another main project. "It includes a property endowment worth Dh22 million at the Rafaa area in Fujairah city."

Over 70000 donors have participated in this endowed building which has been built on an area of 900sqmt he said.

"Philanthropists participated with at least an endowment share of Dh100 in the seven-floor building which includes several apartments and eight outlets."

The same 'Unending Alms' project saw Dh1.27million on buying household items for poor families along with Dh1.01million specified for maintaining the houses of low-income people he added.
