UAE- Safety awareness programme ends children urged to reach out to police


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Safety Ambassadors programme aimed at educating school children to prevent violence came to an end on Sunday.

The programme organised by Dubai Police Human Rights Department saw wide participation among children and their parents.

Brigadier Dr Mohammed Abdullah Al-Murr Director of the Human Rights Department praised the role played by the programme's partners in proving useful education for children on how to prevent violence abuse and exploitation and explained that this has a significant impact on safety and security.

He noted that the programme also aims to spread the culture of rights to all Dubai schools and to protect children from assault and sexual harassment.

As part of the programme the Department of Child Protection of Dubai Police educated the youngsters and their parents on how to use the police properly and submit information when children are exposed to the risk of attack by calling the toll-free number 80048888.

The Information Office can also be called from abroad by using 009718004888 and people will receive official notices via SMS from the number 4444 or through the Al Ameen e-mail () as well as through various social media outlets the service has.

The Emirates Transport provided safe transportation of students from home to school or vice versa and distributed awareness leaflets.

Mohammed Taris of Emirates Transport traffic control said that transport has changed and now plays an important social role to achieve security for students pointing out that Emirates applies the "golden rule system" that shows children how to board and egress from the bus.

Police and Al Ameen officers also spread awareness to protect children from the misuse of the internet and protect them from various types of cyber crimes.

Fatima Al Balushi Head of Awareness and Education at the Children and Women Protection Department of the Human Rights Department noted that the children were given simple questionnaires to measure the effect of the messages provided through the project.
