Kuwait- Over 60 Lebanese await deportation for Hezbollah ties


(MENAFN- Arab Times) More than 60 Lebanese are awaiting deportation for their alleged links to the 'terrorist' party, Hezbollah of Lebanon, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Although all of them hold Article 18 residence permit, their status have been modified and they have been given a temporary residence permit of one or two months to wind up their activities or receive their settlements from their respective companies, while some of the cases which are considered serious, such persons are given 48 hours to leave the country.

A knowledgeable security source confirmed the Interior Ministry is making sustained efforts to pursue the Lebanese who are suspected of maintaining links with Hezbollah after the Gulf Cooperation Council classified it as a terrorist organization. The source added there is direct coordination among the GCC states at a high level to prepare lists of the number of undesirable persons who work in the GCC countries.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passports Affairs Major-General Mazen Al-Jarrah has reaffirmed that the security of Kuwait is a red line which no one will be allowed to cross. Al-Jarrah pointed out a decision has been taken to administratively deport any person who promotes alien ideas or doctrine in the Kuwaiti society.

The deportation is not only limited to the Arabs but to all and cited the example of a US citizen who was deported. Al-Jarrah stressed the authorities will not tolerate anyone who toys with Kuwait's security, which is a big responsibility on part of the security authorities particularly at this point in time when the region is experiencing turmoil.

He pointed out the Immigration Investigation Department is an executive authority and the deportation decision is within the powers of the Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid.
