American markets open higher


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) >U.S. stocks were higher at the opening Monday to begin the new trading week.

The Dow Jones industrial index rose 0.22 percent to begin at 17554 points. The S&P 500 increased by the same margin to open at 2040 while the Nasdaq rose 0.28 percent to start the day at 4786 points.

The indexes opened higher for first time after declining three sessions in a row.

Oil prices are on a downward trend at the opening bell.

American benchmark West Texas Intermediate traded at $34.42 and international benchmark Brent at $40.76.

U.S. consumer spending rose 0.1 percent in February as expected while personal income increased 0.2 percent to beat market expectations. Pending home sales increased by 3.5 percent. Analysts projected a 1 percent rise.

Markets will focus on a speech by Fed chair Janet Yellen's on Tuesday and await monthly jobless figures expected Friday.
