China, S. Korea revive joint tourism sector

(MENAFN) South Korean tourism and retail businesses are preparing a number of promotional and cultural events to get back Chinese travelers during a long-haul holiday season, according to informed resources.

South Korea aims at making up for a summer slump in the wake of a viral Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) illness, which harmed local spending as foreign tourists canceled their planned trips in the summer.

Things has already started to look good as Chinese tourists have started to return to the once-empty streets of Myeongdong over the previous month, one of the Seoul's most popular shopping areas.

Nearly 303,000 tourists with Chinese nationality entered the country in the first two weeks of January, growing 4.8 percent as opposed to the same period a year ago, according to latest figures.
