The Mad Hatters

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) As expected the 2016 Dubai World Cup not only managed to keep viewers on their toes with thrilling on ground action at Meydan, but off the field too as a bevy of the city's fashionistas joined an international crowd to pay homage to what is most commonly referred to as "the world's richest race".

There were winners and losers across the nine races of the day but, perhaps, all of them were deserving winners as they were the cast of such a big spectacle.

Pertinently, Dubai and the UAE was the winner for putting on a top-notch and fascinating show. This was indeed a celebration of horse racing which has embedded itself in our social fabric. The race meeting painted a pretty picture on Dubai's landscape.

There was plenty of action on the turf as well as the dirt tracks of the Meydan Race course and there was plenty of action off it too. Race goers were dressed to the nines and strutted their best and rubbed shoulders with some of the biggest names in horse racing.

From extravagant headgear to fancy suits and footwear, the Meydan grounds was once again transformed into a style stakes ground as the region's most anticipated fashion event of the year, the Jaguar Style Stakes arena was buzzing with Dubai's most stylish and creative men and women all competing to be voted the best in their category.

Celebrating the best of racing fashion, judges AlAnoud Badr, founder of design label 'Lady Fozaza', Kim Fletcher, Melbourne-based milliner, Kate Hazell, Fashion Director at Esquire Middle East and Salman Sultan, Press Media Relations and Social Media Manager at Jaguar Land Rover MENA, spent a busy day on the prowl for Dubai's most creative, unique, fashion forward and elegant competition entrants.

Focusing on men and women who stood out from the crowds, the judging panel saw some of Dubai's most captivating racegoers compete at this year's event. Hand-picked from hundreds of s entrants, Nader Tearab was named the Best Dressed Man while Shaleen Alena Cheah was named the Best Dressed Lady.

Altogether the sporting event managed to showcase the best of action on the field and the best of fashion off it.
