Man charged with raping teacher on NY eve

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A Nigerian salesman I.A. 30 allegedly raped a woman after following her and barging inside her flat on New Year's Eve a court heard on Sunday.

The incident allegedly happened around 3.30am on January 1 when the woman a British teacher was coming back late to her flat in the Silicon Oasis. The man is facing rape physical assault and trespass charges in the Court of First Instance.

The 32-year-old complainant said that she saw I.A. at the lift and she thought he was a resident. "He asked me in which floor I was in and as I reached my flat I was surprised to see him following me. He said he wanted to make sure I was okay".

However I.A. did not listen to her as she told him to stop following her. She had just opened the door when he quickly pushed it and barged inside. She could not run outside as he dragged her to her bed where he raped her she claimed. He even tried to follow her to the bathroom but left shortly later. She went to her friend's place and then complained to the police.

A Rashidiyah policeman said during the investigation that the incident was reported around 7am. "We moved to her flat and seized the clothes she was wearing at the time".

The police arrested I.A. around 11am on the same day.

"He said that he went to that building to visit a friend and when he did not find him he went down and that was when he met the complainant".

The officer said in his statement quoting I.A. that the woman did not look sober and was carrying a junk food bag. She asked I.A. to help her with the bag.

"I.A. said he went with her to her flat where she willingly took off her clothes and asked him to have sex with her. She asked him to leave after that".

The police searched I.A.'s place and seized the clothes he was wearing at the time of the incident.

The officer also checked the CCTV footage. "They kept talking in front of the lift and did not take it for some time. When they finally took it she handed him a bag".

The police could not tell what happened in the lift or corridor for absence of installed cameras.

The Criminal Evidence Department's report showed that I.A. did have sex with the woman. Small bruises were spotted on her body (right thigh and hand).
