Japan faces massive opposition to sales tax increase

(MENAFN) The most recent poll released revealed that 64.6 percent of the Japanese public refuse the authorities' plan to further hike sales tax from current 8pct to 10pct in April next year.

The surveys also showed that 44.3pct of the respondents approve a possible double election in which the National Diet's lower house may be dissolved for a general election in this summer.

Additionally, the poll also exposed that support rate for the prime minister's cabinet jumped 1.7 percentage points to 48.4pct from last survey in Feb, while disapproval rate stayed at 39.5pct.

However, the survey said nearly 67.8pct are not holding hopes on the newly launched opposition party, which is the biggest opposition party since the form of the Abe-led ruling camp in late 2012.
