Qatar's Sheikh Ali grabs final day's honours

KATARA: Qatar’s Sheikh Ali bin Khalid al Thani won the feature event of the third and final leg of the QNB Doha tour yesterday.

On the concluding day of the championship at Katara Shiekh Ali guided Imperio Egipcio Milton to victory in the CSI 4* 160cm class which carried a total prize money of QAR 460300 .

Saudi’s Khaled Abdulaziz al-Eid (Old Chap Tame) came second ahead of his countryman Abdullah al-Sharbatly (Roso Au Crosnier)

Meanwhile al-Eid walked away with the QNB Doha Tour series trophy which was awarded to the rider who won most points over the three legs.

In competition 9 Ramzy Al Duhami of Saudi Arabia guided Garlic VH Kapelhof to victory in the 145cm class which carried a total prize bag of QR 130000.

Garlic VH Kapelhof clocked a time of 58.21 seconds as Al Duhami picked up the top prize of QR 32500.

Qatar’s Hamad Al Attiyah finished second when his ride Whitaker produced a flawless routine. Whitaker clocked a time of 59.57 seconds against the clock.

Turkish rider Omer Karaevli guided Rabane De Sury to third in a time of 59.57 seconds.

Gyptian duo Mohammed Osama El Borai (Dina 68.05 seconds) and Saed Saad (Quintero 71.21 seconds) completed the top.

“We had two horses one of them - we felt - was ready for this competition. When we gave him the competition you saw that showed great performance he showed good form’ Al Duhami said yesterday.

“We are trying to do what we can in terms of winning performances. We have had three good competitions this week” the Saudi rider said.

“Some horses show good time and with good pace. But some horses get tired during competitions without adequate rest. That’s why sometimes we don’t get good results” he said.

Qatar’s Al Attiyah said: “We have prepared well. We have had good runs as you can see. There are experienced riders here with quality horses. We are not wary of any rider. We have future plans and we are moving towards those targets.”

In competition 8 Qatar’s rider Rashid Towaim Al Marri guided Kannada to an impressive win in the 145cm jump off class.

Kannada clocked a time of 36/07 seconds as Al Marri won QR 20000 for his efforts.

French rider Cyril Cherif astride Ben D Aelsterhof finished in second spot in a time of 46.66 seconds. Cheirf won QR 16000.

Ali Al Khorafi of Kuwait guided Cheril to third place in a time of 36.03 seconds (4 faults). Al Khorafi won QR 12000.

Qatar’s of Abdullah Ali Al Ajeil (Goldan 46.32 seconds 4 faults) finished fourth.The Peninsula
