UAE- New Dh33.9m power station opens in UAQ

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa) all set to meet the pressing demand for electricity in the northern emirates has opened a new power station in Umm Al Quwain.

The substation built at the Hamra area has a capacity of 75MVA and contains three transmitters feeders and switches with 33/11 KV according to Adnan Naseeb Salem Executive Director for Joint Services Department Fewa.

"The new substation to serve the residential and commercial Hamra area and neighbourhoods is to fulfil the needs of the future housing and trade projects in the Hamra area 1 2 3 4 and nearby districts."

The substation built at a cost of Dh33.9-million will ease the loads on the Old Hamra power station he added. "This is basically due to the connection of the new substation with three 33/11 KV circuits at the UAQ Power Station."

This will curb any possible cut in power supply and boost the performance of the new substation Salem pointed out.

"Three power substations are currently in the service of Umm Al Quwain to cope with the requirements of the infrastructure development and urban expansions across the emirate."

The authority recently opened another new Dh33.9-million substation at the Shaikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah to meet the needs of the hospital and future expansions.

Official statistics show that Fewa has managed to generate more power to fulfil the needs of the growing areas in the emirate over the last few years Mohammed Saleh Director General of Fewa stated. "We have produced 2600MW this year against 1650MW in 2008."

The additional 1000 MW of power helped the authority to supply power to all the residential industrial and commercial areas that were established in the last few years he underlined.
