Kuwait- GCC lauds Canada for hosting Syrian refugees

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON March 25 (KUNA) -- GCC ambassadors to Canada have hailed the nation for hosting 25000 Syrian refugees granting a token donation to the competent authorities caring for the Syrians who have fled violence in their home country.

The State of Kuwait Ambassador to Cananda Abdulhamid Al-Failakawi said in a statement on Friday that he and the other GCC ambassadors expressed appreciation to the Canadian authorities during a reception held late on Thursday hosting Canadian officials. Mayor of the Canadian capital Ottawa Jim Watson received during the activity a token donation from the diplomats for the city role in hosting the Syrian refugees.

Ambassador Al-Failakawi lauded the Canadian Government care for the 25000 Syrian refugees saying that the donation was part of the GCC contributions to back efforts to help the stricken Syrian people.

The five-year internal Syrian conflict has claimed some 250000 lives and left millions either homeless relocated or refugees in neighboring European and remote countries such as Canada.

Kuwait has hosted three international conferences for pledging aid for the Syrians. It had also taken part in the fourth convention at this level held in London during which the country donated USD 1.6 billion for them. (end) yt.rk
